  • what was useful, we meet the sit 'n stroll
  • the sit 'n stroll extended review, the britax roundabout experience
  • strolling for two. or is it three?: intro to the tandem stroller
  • update: 9/25/01

it appears that my updates are going to be yearly instead of monthly.

this edition, part one: i received a What We Found Useful For Baby list compiled by a bunch of moms. i'm posting it here for your perusal.

this edition, part two: what i've learned about tandem strollers so far:

  • i still like the front-to-back versus side-to-side. the width factor alone makes it worthwhile.
  • put the heavier child in BACK. when we started, we had the infant (with carrier) in back, older child (about 22 lbs) in front. they weighed about the same. as soon as the infant was out of the carrier, the balance changed and it became much harder to steer.
  • and use the tray in front. it may be a pain, but when walking through a crowd, you may be grateful for the extra barrier, however small.
  • seat features: the one thing the duoglider does not do is allow children to face each other. the only stadium-seat (rear seat higher) stroller that does this that i've seen is in the One Step Ahead catalog ($170 plus S&H). this may or may not be a feature you want, depending on how your children get along. my kids love each other so it would have been a good thing, because then they could keep each other amused.
  • another one that looks good: i've always wondered how people do with the Sit 'n Stand (NOT the Sit 'N Stroll, we have that.) Sit 'n Stand also makes a duo stroller that looks interesting: the LX IV Plus. It looks a bit like a 4-in-1 that's been extended in the back for a child to ride standing. that area will also accomodate a snap-out seat if a child would like to sit facing forward. about $190 (excludes S&H).
  • was it worth it? i'm not sure. when the baby was small, it was kind of a nightmare getting everything together so we could leave the house. in nice weather, we usually liked to go places outdoors, so we really did better with the jogging stroller for the big girl and the baby in the sling. it was useful for mall walking, and this summer the baby wasn't mobile yet so it was useful for the county fair. but now the baby is walking and i'm finding that i really would prefer to just take the umbrella stroller for the little one and the two of them switch off. wouldn't you know it, the baby wants to walk all the time and the big girl wants to ride. but i find the adage is true: you want to ditch big strollers and go to the lightest one you can ASAP.
  • and there you have it. stroller updates for 2001.
