I have so many wonderful memories of Tony, I don't even know where to
begin. The one that sticks out in my mind now happened when Limited Light
was in Corkey Ballard's studio for the first time recording two songs.
Tony was recording the lead track to "Life Alone," and it had taken forever
to get down the perfect solo. When he finally did, we moved on to the exit
solo in the song. What Tony played was pure magic. When he was done, we
all just stood around staring at him. "That was beautiful Tony," Corkey
said. "Too bad I wasn't taping it."
Tony, 1993 The Fender Stratocaster that sits in my office still reminds me of Tony. He use to borrow it for jazz band when we were in high school. I was his backup, but he always let me play half of the songs. He took the hard ones and let me take the easy ones. Boy, he could make that guitar sing. I can still remember the last time I saw him. It was years ago. He had just gotten himself a Fender Stratocaster of his own. But it didn't matter what kind of guitar Tony had. It was the music that was in his heart that was so beautiful. I always use to brag to my friends about Tony. He was that kind of person. He did so many things so well. I never knew him to do anything half-way. The summer we ran together he was always the one pushing us to go farther and faster. The taste of powdered Gatorade still reminds me of those summer runs with him. I wish that I had stayed in touch. I guess I'm not very good at holding on to the past. When I heard he was sick, I just assumed that he would get better. I'm glad he is better now. I sure do miss him.
