Liner notes, "Music with Tony"
Do you ever stop to think about how you got to where you are now? Did you ever
think back, one effect-causing moment at a time, until you reach A Moment? As I
look at myself in Boulder, struggling to get my band into the public eye, I often
consider the bizarre series of steps that lead me here. I certainly did not
intend at age 16 to become a bass player, let alone one that would move his
entire life to Colorado.
Tony and Andy. The first time I remember seeing Tony was in the spring of 1985. He was thin, bespeckled, and playing electric guitar with the Newtown Middle School jazz band during an outdoor awards ceremony. I don't recall ever being introduced to him, but after picking up bass guitar duing my junior year of high school, we began to speak regularly. After chorus rehearsal, he asked me if I had ever heard "YYZ" by the Canadian rock trio, Rush. I had not. Somehow Tony got me a tape of the album and the music from a guitar magazine. It was A Moment. The two of us got together in his basement and thrashed it out on low-budget amplifiers. The sound was truly dreadful, but it was Rock 'n Roll, man! To complete this cacophony, we needed a drummer... Jon Schuman first jammed with us in the summer of 1988. The three of us would continue to play for four years. |
