Tony and I met when I was singing with the Greenleafs, the women's a cappella group at Washington University, and Tony was with the generics. So, I don't have any stories of us in college, or high school, or what have you. My friendship with Tony really developed over email and the phone and we just kept in touch...

It wasn't until last summer when I was working in DC that I actually got to be in the same place as him for an extended period of time. And, despite Tony's diagnosis that summer with lung cancer, we had a fabulous time.

It seems my stories and memories of Tony would probably seem random to many others, because they really are. But, one thing is for sure -- Tony Went was by far one of the most talented men I knew, and will probably ever know. I admire him immensely and knowing him has made my life so much more worth the living. He was always the first person to congratulate me when things went well, and the first person to remind me of all the blessings I already had when things didn't go so well.

His singing made me smile. His recipes and juicer made me laugh. And his life inspires me every day now. My life hasn't been the same since I met him, and will never be the same again since he left.

Tony's juicer...there really isn't a long, involved story. It's just the fact that from the moment he got it, I think for Christmas last year, he had been juicing everything within reach! Every time I'd talk to him he'd tell me about the new juice he was going to try out. And it didn't matter what was in it, because as long as he added carrots and apples, it always tasted good. Of course, he could have just made carrot apple juice, and I think he did, but I had to laugh when he would think about carrot, apple, and celery, or something more bizarre.
